More rumors swirl around future of Jets owner Woody Johnson

President-elect Donald Trump’s second term in the White House could have a direct impact on the New York Jets.
During Trump’s first administration, Jets owner Woody Johnson served as the U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom. In that time, he was away from the team and his brother, Christopher Johnson, filled his place.

Trump has not yet announced if Johnson will have a position, and the Jets owner has not commented on it. But according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, “NFL officials believe it will happen and the team has the formula in the event it does.”
Rapoport notes that those close to Johnson believe he would accept the same position again.
Christopher Johnson acted as the team’s owner from 2017-2021 and it looks likely that he will return to that role.
During Trump’s first term, Woody Johnson’s appointment was announced in January of 2017 but he wasn’t confirmed until August. If that’s how the timeline shakes out next year, that would mean Johnson would hire the team’s next head coach with his brother later taking over owner duties.
